Nguyen Van Thanh has survived four years since learning of his cancer. We can't see too many traces of the disease on his body. In the face of the disease, the threat of disease, most people will be immersed in pain. Still, seventy-year-old Nguyen Van Thanh is always optimistic that: as long as you believe in the current medical technology, believe in the doctor, and adhere to the treatment, you will be able to overcome the disease.

Be calm and make the right choice

In September 2019, Nguyen Van Thanh had a local colonoscopy in Vietnam because of constipation and found a lump 3cm from his anus, which was diagnosed as rectal cancer. Upon hearing the result, Nguyen Van Thanh was very calm at the time, saying, "I was 70 years old, and I had come through many challenges in life, so in the face of cancer, I was thinking about how to treat it and overcome it, rather than wallowing in sadness."

How to treat it? At that time, the doctor advised "surgery + fistula". This meant that after the surgery, the anus could not be preserved, and the patient would have to live with a "stool bag", which greatly affected the quality of life, and Nguyen Van Thanh refused to do so.

Most rectal cancer patients will face the embarrassing situation of an artificial anus. To keep the anus and not to have to live with an ostomy bag, patients usually refuse the surgery. So is there an alternative to surgery? Of course, there is more than one way to treat cancer.

Nguyen Van Thanh set out to learn about various cancer treatment methods. When he learned that St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou could treat colorectal cancer without surgery, he and his wife couldn't wait to come to Guangzhou and start a "wonderful" treatment journey.

Minimally invasive interventional therapy + cryotherapy made his condition easily improved

In October 2019, Nguyen Van Thanh arrived at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, and the colonoscopy and CT examination revealed that the tumor in the rectal area was 2*2cm in size and accompanied by peri-intestinal lymph node metastasis. The MDT of the hospital immediately conducted a consultation, and combined with Nguyen Van Thanh's situation, formulated a comprehensive treatment plan based on minimally invasive intervention, supplemented by immunotherapy + traditional Chinese medicine treatment.

Minimally invasive interventional therapy only requires a 2 mm incision, puncture under the guidance of medical imaging equipment, and direct infusion of anti-tumor drugs into the lesion to directly kill the tumor, which is characterized by no incision, small trauma, fast recovery, and good effect.

Nguyen Van Thanh understands that although he has a good physical foundation, he is old, and choosing minimally invasive intervention is the least damaging to his body, which allows him to live with more dignity, he said, "I am satisfied with the program the doctor gave me, and in addition to interventional therapy, he also assisted with immunotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and so on, so that the integrated treatment program, which is very effective, and during the treatment process, I almost did not experience side effects, and I getting better and better."

In January 2020, Nguyen Van Thanh received 4 courses of invasive intervention treatment, and then reviewed again, the colonoscopy showed that the tumor had shrunk, and the tumor marker levels returned to normal. The fight against cancer has achieved a stage victory, and regular review is all that is needed.

Defy it, overcome it

Now, 4 years later, Nguyen Van Thanh has been maintained in good health. During the treatment in Guangzhou, he and his wife also traveled to Sichuan together, experiencing the beautiful scenery of nature. He said, "I am lucky to choose Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, the service here is good, the environment is good, the doctors are professional, and I trust them. Even though I traveled thousands of miles abroad, the experience was worth it. I have been able to enjoy the different joys of life here, and I feel like I've been reborn, seeing the beauty and hopes of life. After this, I plan to visit more places and admire more stunning scenery with my wife."

He also hopes that more patients can get effective treatment, he said, "Suffering from cancer is not scary, cancer is not equal to death, we should believe in ourselves, believe in the current medical technology, believe in our doctors, adhere to the treatment, keep a good mindset, we can beat cancer!"
