On August 10, 2026, the Kuching International Service Center, jointly established by Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou and We Care Asia, officially opened its doors. Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council, attended the ceremony on behalf of Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian. The ceremony was also witnessed by distinguished guests including Mr. Yang Zhihong, Manager of the Malaysia International Service Center of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, and Dr. Wang Baoli, Director and International Oncology Specialist of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou.

In his speech, Deputy Premier Dr. Sim Kui Hian spoke highly of the significance of establishing the center. He noted that healthcare has become an important economic driver for promoting tourism and strengthening international cooperation. He also highlighted that Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou offers 18 minimally invasive treatment techniques, including interventional therapy, which, compared with conventional treatments, can help target and eliminate cancer cells more precisely, reduce side effects, and accelerate recovery, offering new treatment options for patients with middle- and advanced-stage cancer. At the ceremony, Dr. Yusof, CEO of We Care Asia, emphasized that geographical boundaries should not be a barrier to accessing quality healthcare. The establishment of the center serves as an important bridge connecting patients with quality medical services.

As the first official service center established by a Chinese specialized cancer hospital in East Malaysia, the Kuching International Service Center will build on Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou’s more than a decade of experience serving patients in Malaysia. With over 400 health seminars held across Malaysia, the organization of the 5th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Forum, and broad recognition from Malaysia’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, the center will continue to uphold a patient-centered approach and provide more patients with convenient, one-stop access to quality cancer care.

When expertise and compassion come together across borders, and advanced medical technologies connect closely with local needs, healthcare can go beyond geographical boundaries. The launch of the Kuching International Service Center not only opens a convenient pathway to quality cancer care for patients in Sarawak and surrounding areas, but also represents a meaningful step forward in China–Malaysia cooperation and joint efforts to advance cancer prevention and treatment across the region.
