On November 8, 2025, the vibrant city of Kunming proudly inaugurated the 6th ASEAN International Integrative Oncology Forum, jointly hosted by leading authorities including the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), the World Association of Integrative Oncology (WAIO), and the Chinese Academy of Integrative Medicine Development Strategy. The forum was collaboratively organized by Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Kunming Medical University, Yunnan Anti-Cancer Association, and Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou.



Under the inspiring theme “Unite Worldwide Forces, Forge a Cancer-Free Future”, this year's Forum transcends borders by building upon the China-ASEAN healthcare cooperation framework and extending its influence across “Belt and Road Initiative” countries. It is dedicated to forging a cross-regional, multidisciplinary, and full-spectrum integrative oncology collaboration system, propelling systemic innovation and international synergy spanning from fundamental research to clinical practice.


Grand Opening: Converge Wisdom, Collaborate for Success


The opening ceremony resonated with the collective wisdom of distinguished guests, as representatives from prestigious institutions across the globe gathered with a shared mission: Pioneering a new chapter in global cancer collaboration.


Professor Zhang Fujun, serving as Director of the CACA Belt and Road International Training Center (Guangdong) while also representing Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, inaugurated the proceedings by showcasing the Center's remarkable achievements: Orchestrating more than 280 Sino-foreign medical exchanges and completing over 3,000 online consultations. He emphasized that the Forum has become a cornerstone of the “China-ASEAN Medical Cooperation Framework”, playing a pivotal role in propagating and implementing the principles of integrative medicine at the grassroots level and across Southeast Asia. Confronting the global challenge of cancer, he asserted, “Only through united collaboration can we forge a new era for human health.”

In his address, the Deputy Consul General of Vietnam in Kunming eloquently emphasized Vietnam's readiness to join hands with China and fellow ASEAN nations in actively expanding multi-tiered cooperation on cancer prevention and control, thereby confronting shared regional public health challenges. He profoundly quoted the timeless wisdom of a Vietnamese sage: “Đoàn kết, đoàn kết, đại đoàn kết. Thành công, thành công, đại thành công”. With this powerful call to action, he urged all parties to transcend borders and disciplines through close-knit integration to collectively conquer cancer—a common enemy of humanity.

Drg. Arianti Anaya, Chairperson of the Indonesian Medical Council from the Ministry of Health, underscored cancer as a pressing public health challenge demanding immediate action across ASEAN. She commended China's pioneering role in the field of integrative medicine and expressed her commitment to actively champion the inclusion of cancer prevention and control within the China-ASEAN Health Silk Road cooperation framework.

Mr. Liu Weining, President of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, spoke with deep emotion: "My grandfather, Chairman Liu Shaoqi, dedicated his life's work to the cause of Sino-Russian friendship. Today, we are writing a new chapter in this shared history, with medicine as our unifying bond." With profound conviction, he emphasized that the advancement of integrative oncology crystallizes the collective wisdom of East and West, and is destined to deliver profound health benefits to the people across Belt and Road Initiative nations.

During the academic symposium, global experts engaged in a dynamic exchange on theoretical innovations and clinical practices in integrative oncology, spotlighting groundbreaking progress where technological convergence is driving a paradigm shift in diagnosis and treatment models.


Professor Ma Xiaoying, a Minimally Invasive Oncology Expert from Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, presented on New Comprehensive Treatment Strategies for CRLM and Case Studies, delivering her analysis through representative cases. The presentation demonstrated the innovative applications and outcomes of personalized immunotherapy strategies in the treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases.

Dr. Vijaendreh Subramaniam, Chairman of the Malaysian Integrated Cancer Care Centre, presented his report titled Towards Integrative Oncology: A Perspective from Malaysia, covering aspects such as policy guidance, integration of traditional and modern medicine, and community healthcare system development. The presentation thus provided a practical model for regional cooperation.

Professor Wang Baoli, a Minimally Invasive Oncology Specialist at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, explored integrative medical strategies for cancer pain management. He proposed an innovative approach that combines standardized Western diagnostic and treatment protocols with holistic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) regulation, aiming to enhance patients’ quality of life.

Dr. Endang from the Indonesian Oncology Radiotherapy Committee of the Ministry of Health presented a comprehensive report titled Optimizing Esophageal Cancer Radiotherapy: From Curative to Palliative, systematically elaborating on optimized strategies throughout the entire spectrum of radiotherapy for esophageal cancer, from radical treatment to palliative care. The presentation also put forward evidence-based individualized treatment plans.

Professor Dr. Jim L. Fernandez from Centro Escolar University, Philippines, comprehensively reviewed the prevention and treatment system for oral cancer, emphasizing the critical importance of multilevel prevention and early screening in the field of public health.

Academician Vladimir Moiseyenko from the N. P. Napalkov Public Oncology Center in Russia provided an in-depth analysis of the physiological characteristics and treatment strategies for geriatric cancer patients, proposing a new paradigm for personalized diagnosis and treatment based on the biology of aging.

Cancer Warriors: The Global Resonance of Life's Strength


The specially curated “Cancer Warriors’ Stories” session became the most profoundly moving moment of the entire forum. Following the screening of an international video featuring cancer warriors expressing their gratitude, the venue erupted in heartfelt applause. In the video, cancer survivors from different nations shared strikingly similar journeys of fear and hope, despair and rebirth — this powerful resonance of human experience deeply touched every distinguished guest present.


Subsequently, two cancer warriors present at the forum took to the stage. Through their personal and lived experiences, they powerfully embodied the core principle of integrative medicine: Treating the whole person - mind and body.


Fey from Indonesia, a cervical cancer survivor, shared her profound journey since being diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer in 2017. She expressed particular gratitude for the comprehensive care received at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, stating: “Here, I not only received advanced treatments but was also treated as a whole person — with dreams, dignity, and a soul.” Today, she has become a certified life coach and meditation instructor, passing forward this blessing of life to many others.

Dahlia from the Philippines, a courageous cancer warrior, shared her challenging journey in the fight against endometrial cancer. After local treatments proved ineffective and the cancer had metastasized to her liver—her darkest hour—she found hope at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. The hospital’s MDT team crafted a personalized treatment plan that effectively brought her condition under control, leading to a miraculous recovery. “It was the advanced technology and the dedicated care from the medical staff at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou that gave me a second chance at life,” she emotionally expressed.

Through their living stories, they bore powerful witness to the world: When scientific rationality joins forces with human courage, we can transcend all boundaries and forge the strongest defense against cancer, together.


Key Achievements: International Cooperation Advances Toward Institutionalization


During the closing session of the Forum, international experts jointly reviewed the pivotal role of integrative medicine in reshaping healthcare delivery systems and forged a shared vision for future global collaboration. Participating representatives unanimously concurred that integrative oncology is emerging as a pivotal link advancing coordinated development in the worldwide fight against cancer.


As a major outcome of this Forum, the inaugural ceremony for the “CACA Overseas Branch in Russia” was officially held. Academician Fan Daiming, President of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), the Asian Society of Oncology (AOS), and the World Association of Integrative Oncology (WAIO), personally presided over the ceremony. This event marks a significant milestone in the international network expansion of CACA and establishes a new platform for deepening Sino-Russian collaboration in cancer prevention and treatment.

With the successful conclusion of the 6th ASEAN International Integrative Oncology Forum, cooperation between China and ASEAN nations in cancer prevention and treatment has entered a new chapter. The proposed “China-ASEAN Integrative Oncology Collaboration Network” will serve as a vital engine to upgrade the Southeast Asian healthcare cooperation mechanism and fully integrate the entire chain from technology transfer to clinical application and patient translation.
