Applicable diseases:

Solid tumors such as liver cancer, lung cancer, thyroid nodules, breast cancer, bone cancer, uterine fibroids, pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, etc.

Technology advantages:

High thermal efficiency, short time; no scar, no suture; no side effect, low recurrence

1.Definition

Microwave Ablation is a cutting-edge non-surgical physical treatment method for tumor treatment with high deactivation-rate. It has been put into the field of liver cancer treatment for at least 30 years. With continuous development of the technology in recent years, it is not only applied for liver cancer, but also create a good therapeutic effect for other cancer types.Microwave Ablation is to introduce the microwave ablation needle into the tumor area and produces microwaves, directly destroy and melt cancer cells by physical methods. It’s strong-targeted, high thermal efficiency, shorter operative time, without any toxic side effects to normal tissues.

2.Mechanism

 MWA is to introduce the microwave ablation needle into the tumor percutaneously under the guidance of ultrasound B, CT, MRI and other imaging devices and then the needle produces microwaves. At this time, the microwave ablation needle is equivalent to a “mini-microwave”, which persistently releases microwave. Polar molecules in the tumor tissue have high-speed movement under the action of the microwave field, generating heat so that the temperature quickly rises above 60℃ in the tumor tissue, resulting in tumor tissue coagulation, dehydration and necrosis within short time.

3.Advantages

(1)High heat thermal efficiency, short operation time. Generally, it only requires 10 minutes to melt a tumor with a diameter of 6cm and reduce the risk of operation and pain. For tumor with a diameter of less than 5cm, it can kill it at one time and no cancer cells left.

(2)Area of solidification is controllable. It can flexibly inactivate tumor based on size and cause little damage to normal tissue.
(3)During the process of treatment, there is only a needle with diameter of less than 2mm and it’s penetrated directly to tumor under the guidance of imaging equipment. No need to stitch thread and no scar caused with a sty less than 3mm. It avoids the damage to the whole body which caused by major surgery.
(4)No toxic side effects like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, high safety and low recurrence rate.
(5)Wide indications. For liver cancer patient who are unable to undergo resection or receive poor effect by blood vessel embolization or with poor liver function, microwave ablation can still be applied and receive the advantages of reducing tumor size, palliative care, pain relief and improvement of life quality.

4.Clinic application

It is mainly applied for solid tumors like liver cancer, lung cancer, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, bone cancer, pancreatic cancer.

(1)Suitable for patients with primary tumors who cannot undergo general surgery due to the patient's age, physical condition, other diseases, and the location of the tumor;
(2) Suitable for patients with tumors who are not willing to undergo general open surgery;
(3) Suitable for patients with tumors that cannot be operated by general surgery due to intraoperative exploration; and suitable for patients with metastatic tumors and postoperative recurrence of tumors.
